My neighbor came to me with a beautiful burgundy maxi dress that just wasn't doing her any favors. She had her best friend's wedding coming up and asked if I could make this dress more suited to her style. Alteration is one of my favorite things to do with garments so I emphatically took on the project. I removed the sleeves and used the best parts of the sequined mesh to create adjustable straps and the rest were used as accents on the skirt. She had a great vision and asked if we could turn all the extra skirt fabric into a shawl. She truly was in on minimal fabric waste! I created a pleated 1950's-inspired capelet that would also attach as a peplum waistband when she didn't need it. She chose the accents and the result is a one-of-a-kind dress that she can truly wear after the wedding!
